Week of Aug. 19th, 2012

Sunday was so so hot.  A high of 96!  We were dying!  No air conditioning.  I thought about even going to a hotel, but they don't have air either!
We made blueberry muffins for the new neighbors and offered to have the little girl over after camp tomorrow to play.
Other than that we tried to stay cool.

Monday is the day the recycling comes.  One of the few jobs the boys have to do is bringing out the bins on the night before and putting all the stuff in the bins.  Well I am at the kitchen window when one of the recycling trucks comes by and I see the guy throw his arms up in the air after he opens our bin.  It seems the boys mixed the paper and glass.  We have one bin for paper and one for glass and a truck for each comes around.  Ugh!
Today the kids started the camp at school.  It is just from 9-12.  Jacob was glad to see some of his friends at the camp.  Amber and Sean both had a few friends that had signed up as well.  So that was good.  So as soon as the camp started my friend and I went out for coffee at the mall.  We invited a new mom I had not met yet to join us.  She is also from the states and come to find out she has a boy Sean's age, so I was glad to hear that and they live close to me.  We had a nice time and spent most of the morning there.
At pick up I met the other mom that lives close to me, we saw Sean's teacher from last year and one of Amber's teachers.  So that was nice to see everyone.  From here we took one of Jacob's friends home with us.  After lunch the new neighbor girl came over to play.  So I took them all to the mall for ice cream.  It was really good.  We had never tried this little ice cream stand inside the mall.  Yummy!
The kids had a fun afternoon playing.
It was still very warm today, high 80's.  Last night I didn't sleep well with it being so warm in the house.  You know it's hot when you have to shower more then once a day!

Tuesday it was raining in the morning for the camp and my garage door opener is now not working.  I will have to get a new battery and see if that is it or it is shot from being in water.  So it is a pain to go in and out of the garage when I keep have to getting out of the car.
The kids had a good morning at camp.   After camp Jacob went home with a friend until dinner time.  Sean went over to his new friend's house.  And Amber had a friend over and we had lunch and then met another friend at the park.  It was still very hot here today and it doesn't work well with no air in the houses.
After the park we drove everyone home and then picked up Sean.  He had a good time at his friend's house, and it is close by.

Wednesday seemed to just go on forever!  The kids had camp, I did a big grocery run to the walmarty sort of store here.  After camp the kids came home, no play dates today, and we waited for Jason to come back so they could see him.  Jason flew through Paris and they again lost one of his bags!  So of course this one has Amber's Strawberry Shortcake costume in it and now she thinks they are going to steal it and was in tears.  I told her I don't think that would be very high on someone's list to steal, you never know but hopefully not!  Then we met some other friends that had just come back in town at the park to play for a bit.  Jason came a bit later to play catch with the boys.  Then all the kids helped make tacos for dinner.  Everyone had figured out what they wanted to be for Halloween so I needed to order a few more things to make up their costumes.
Jacob has said a couple times he would like a swatch watch for Christmas.  So there was a store in London we stopped in and he got to see a few.  Of course he doesn't like the kids ones.  So tonight we are looking online and he finds one- $120!  I don't think so.  I tell him he has never even worn a watch before so why don't we start out with something more basic and see how you really like it.  Geesh.  I could see him getting it and being like, yeah I don't really like wearing this.  And I told him he needs one with numbers or he will never be able to actually tell what time it is!  Heck I need one with numbers!

Thursday the temp. went down and it was a bit chilly in the morning.  It felt good.  The kids had camp and I went to the toy store to pick up 4 presents for the upcoming b'day parties Jacob and Amber have to go too.  They called this morning and said they had Jason's bag and if I wasn't going to pick it up they would deliver it between 3-10pm and someone had to be home.  Nothing like waiting 7 hours for something that they lost!
After camp Sean had a friend over.  Amber went to her new friend's house a bit after lunch for the afternoon.  And Jacob's friend was suppose to come over but they live about 30min. away and his mom had workers at the house and couldn't be gone that long to take him here and back.  So unfortunatly that one didn't work out.
When I first went back to the grocery store here I was walking down the baking aisle at the store just hoping to see some new mixes, like Betty Crocker, etc.  No such luck.  But they did come out with a box cookie mix so I bought that, but haven't tried that yet.  I did try the chocolate chip muffin mix today.  They had that last year, but I had never tried it.  Well they kind of taste like plain corn muffins with a hint of chocolate in them.  Not very exciting.
Jason's bag came around 7pm and had all the stuff in it.  Unfortunatly Amber's costume is too small- grr.  Not like it will be that easy to return and I have to order it again!  I had ordered a small girl's one that is 4-6.  So it wasn't a toddler one.

Friday was the kids last day of camp.  At 11:30 they had an ice cream social and the parents were invited back.  So that was nice.  After camp Amber went home with a friend for lunch and then after lunch the two of them went to their little boy friend's house for the afternoon.  The boys and I didn't do too much this afternoon.  Jason had come home early, like 5pm.  He had gone to the good butcher out by him and gotten a bunch of meats for us to put in our new freezer.   A lot cheapier out by him and really good meat!
For dinner tonight we took the kids out for their back to school dinner.  We had decided to try this Brazilian Churrasco that is out by Jason' s work that we had seen all last year but never went too.  Well it was wonderful!  It was the most authentic Brazilian place we have been too outside of Brazil.  Our waiter was from Portugual and we were having a hard time understanding his Portuguese, but one of the servers was from Brazil and it was great being able to talk with him in Portuguese and no problem understanding him.  It was one of the most expensive family dinners we have ever had and Amber was free!  The problem was on the weekend they have some sort of Brazilian dancing show but it doesn't start until 9:30.  We didn't know this and went at 7pm.  Well on the weekends your dinner price includes the show.  So we finished about 8:45 and there was no way we were going to be able to keep the kids there for another 45 min.  We wondered why we were the only people in the place until 8:30 when a big group of people showed up.  Next time we will have to go back with friends and do the show, sem crianças (without children).

Saturday it was in the low 70's so we figured a perfect day to go to the zoo!  It is in France about 40 min. away.  It was the most expensive zoo we have ever been too!  It was about $200 for us to go!  After last night and today Jason isn't going to want to go any where!
The parking was crazy.  We got there at 11:30 and the area where they were having people park was full, so they were having people park all along these back trails.  It look like a camping area almost.  But even these areas were packed!  The zoo itself is very large.  They have 2000 animals so walking around wasn't too crowded but in a few spots.  Here you can feed some of the animals popcorn.  Kind of weird.  So the bears like popcorn.  The bear goes in the mote around the bear area and will stand up against the glass to reach the popcorn people are throwing into him.

This doesn't seem like a very good diet for the animals!  But we got good views of the bear!  The kids feed the rams, donkeys and prairie dogs.

After the zoo we drove to Germany to go to the 2 cheapier stores there.  The first one has all the bathroom products, toilet paper, tooth brushes, cleaning supplies, laundry stuff, etc.  And the second one food.  We bought a ton of stuff.  Stocking up our new freezer and the basement.  Sean couldn't even sit in the third row of the car on the way home, he had to sit in the second row so we could fold the seat down to get all our stuff home!
We had to BBQ the ribs and shrimp for dinner since I had no more room in any of the freezers.
Today we did something in 3 different countries!
