Week of Feb. 18th, 2013

Monday morning I didn't have my car back yet from the dealer so Jason drove us all to school.  Then since today was my day to read to some preschoolers, I just had Jason do it (:  Then we headed over to pick up my car.  I got a new windshield and ordered the floor mats.  I asked if they could just throw them in the car once they came in.  They didn't even need to put them down, they said ok, but of course they didn't and I had to wait for someone to go find them.  I had also asked if I could get the car cleaned on the inside.  They gave it a wash on the outside and then it sat outside for 5 days in the snow so why bother!  Seriously- ugh!
I had a dentist apt. here late morning.  Last summer we spent a lot of time at Dr.'s office with doing all our appts. back in the states.  So there are some we will still need to do, but I figure lets give the dentist a try here.  My friends uses her.  It is the same person we see for Sean's retainer.  Here they can do both.  So my friend had warned me it is different and to ask for the numbing gel if your gums are sensitive.  So of course I ask for that!  The first part of it is just checking your mouth like at home, and if you need X-rays they will do that.  Then the cleaning is not done by scrapping plaque off your teeth.  She called that the old fashioned way of dental cleaning!  It is an ultrasound type of thing that kind of goes under your gum and shakes your teeth a little and the plaque comes off.  This is what they do all over Europe.  It sounds like a drill, like you are getting a filling.  It is not that pleasant but it doesn't last long.  Then the next thing is like a salt blaster.  She blasts your teeth with this and of course half my face.  But this doesn't last long either and then voila, you are done!  Ok.  But I must say my teeth are really smooth now and look nice.  Either that is a good sign or she is just taking the enamel off!
After I recovered from my sweaty hands and fear in the dentist chair I went over to book Sean's b'day party at this indoor climby place he likes.  We come here every once in awhile.  It is pretty big and really not meant for little kids.  Amber has just starting liking it, but comes to find me quite often.  It has a restaurant attached with glass windows.  So you can sit there and watch the kids play.  I was not happy with the price of it, but Jason said just let him have it there so ok!  The lady that was helping me didn't speak English and of course with my French skills... I book the party and pay some of it and then leave.  Well later that night, thank goodness I was looking at the receipt and I realize she booked the party the day of his b'day not the day I wanted the party on.  So when I called back they were already closed so hopefully I can switch days.  It isn't for awhile so should be ok.
From the party place, I was wishing I brought a sandwich, but I decided to drive back to Belgium and see if those 2 things I ordered were in.  I had tried calling this morning and when I asked her if she spoke English she hung up on me- ugh!  I wasn't quite sure how I was going to ask if my order was in anyway so I figured I would just go and hope for the best.  When I got there, there were more cleaning people in store then employees.  When I found someone he checked on my stuff and it was all in!  Thanks goodness I don't have to drive back out here.  It is 30 or so min. away.  From here I drove back and stopped at a grocery store close to the house since we had no food.  Then home with just enough time to drop the groceries, grab a bite to eat and head over to school for pickup.
Today I got an email from my cleaning lady that she was moving in with her boyfriend in Germany and wasn't going to be able to clean my house anymore.  She was scheduled to come on Wednesday this week.  I asked her if she could switch times and come in the afternoon and she said the only time she could come would be Sat.  Well with everyone home Sat. is not really a good day to have the house cleaned.  So I just said no and she didn't give me any leads of anyone else so I was annoyed!
I talked with to the Dr. today about my foot and it is still the same thing, and all my labs are normal.  So she just switched the medicine and we will see if that helps.  She sent me a new prescription.

Tuesday I had to cancel French- darn.  My friend wanted to go shopping in Germany to TKMax.  Too funny it is a take off of TJMax at home.  It is about an hour away.  I had been in the fall with another friend and they had some cute things.  We are going to the Gala this weekend and she wanted a new dress.  So we went out there and shopping in the area.  We grabbed a sandwich at a little shop and ate outside since their 4 inside tables were full.  I wasn't too cold with my coat on but when I took off my mittens to eat the sandwich by the end of lunch they were so frozen!  That didn't stop me from eating this wonderful yummy donut we had picked up there though!  It were better then my dunkin' donuts this past weekend!  Jason was mad I didn't bring one home for him!  We had a nice day and then we didn't have enough time to drop me off at the house to get my car, so we just went to school.  She has a mini van here.  Not too common.  Only one of her girls was coming home then and Amber went home with a friend and then I had the boys plus Sean's friend.  So we piled everyone in and she dropped us off at home.
We have a park by us but it was pretty old.  Well the end of January they tore it down.  So now they are putting up an amazing, huge park!  The boys all walked over there to see if it was done yet.  The boys are even excited to check it out.  It looks like a huge castle and a ton of things to go with it.  The kids keep asking when it will be done.  We all can't wait to check it out!
I was able to call the party place today and it was still that same lady who only spoke French but I was able to get the date changed for Sean's party so I was glad.
The boys had tennis later and we dropped off Sean's friend then and I headed over to pick up Amber and chatted for a bit.  Then back to tennis and then home.  Jason had asked me earlier in the day if I could get a sitter and join him for a company dinner.  Luckily I was able to get a sitter.  So we went out to dinner at this nice place downtown.  We had been there before.  So long day!

Wednesday I had coffee with friends at school, then store then home to unpack, organize, and clean since my cleaning lady is not coming back- ugh.  Now on to looking for another one.
Amber had ballet so she went home with her friend for lunch and then back for ballet.   One of the boys that lost his dad last week to cancer was in the RE class so they said some prayers for him.  So sad and really makes you appreciate what you have.  On this sad topic, one of my friends told me today that the ski area they were at a boy I can't remember his age somewhere around 8 or so, was following his ski class and instructor down the hill.  They make S's down the hill, just going back and forth.  Well I guess he just couldn't stop and went off the mountain into the woods and died.  How sad.
After the boys finished their after school activities Sean had his ortho and cleaning apt.  As we were leaving school the big, heavy door hit him in the face on the way out.  So he was saying he had a little bit of a headache so I told him I would give him some Tylenol at home.
He opted for the numbing gel too and took the cleaning very well.  She didn't do the sand blaster with him, but applied fluoride to his teeth.  No one here does that for kids, so so glad we found her!  Then she told him not to brush his teeth tonight!  Ok no need to tell him that twice!
Poor thing after the fluoride treatment he couldn't eat or drink for an hour, and by now he had a bad headache.  When it was time to eat I opened the cabinet to get out the medicine for him and I accidentally knock one of the kid's night time cold medicine off the shelf.  It fell to the floor and broke open and went all over the floor- ugh!  I hope they don't need that anytime soon!  Now I had a sticky, purple floor and cabinets!

Thursday around 3:30 am is when I think I had been up for the day!  Amber came in and said she was sweating.  Well when I went in her room I knew it wasn't sweat.  She had peed in her bed- ugh!  She has never peed in her bed before so really hard to get mad at her for it.  So nothing like starting the wash at 3:30 in the morning.  And I don't like going down there since the big spiders come out at night!  It had soaked through everything.  So I wiped down the plastic covering over her mattress but I wanted it to air out so she got to go on the rug in her lady bug sleeping bag.  She fell back asleep and was fine.  Around 5am Jacob comes in and says he is going to throw up!  Ok please don't stand over my bed and tell me that, get to the bathroom!  Geesh!  So he gets to his bathroom and is sick.  Ok guess we are up for the day- lovely!   He got sick again around 6:30 and then that was it. So I am really hoping that this isn't the flu.  He stayed home from school today and rested.  He was back to eating by the end of the day and seemed to have his gruve back.  So we will see how he is tomorrow.
I had a hair appt. for next week but yesterday I had changed it to this morning so I could get it done before the Gala this weekend.  So Jason was able to stay at home for a bit with Jacob.  Jacob took a nice nap this morning too so he got a lot of rest today.
I went back to cleaning today, especially after last night!  A little bit before pick up today, the school was having an adolescence/puberty talk to the parent's of 5th graders.  So I went back for it.  They wanted to let the parents know that they will start the Adolescence unit next week and just what they were going to be talking about and how we should be talking with them about things.  It was good.  And I am interested to see what Jacob thinks of this next unit!

Friday was the day Amber and her friend wore their matching pink skirts.

They were so excited!  Today I watched my friend's 2 1/2 year old for her.  So he came over in the morning and we played trucks and cars, then I took him to tennis.  He is such a good little thing.  He is the youngest of 4 so you can tell he is used to having to sit and wait.  We brought a lego monster truck, he liked that from  the boys, and some books and his Ipad and he sat and watched me play tennis for an hour!  One of the girls I play with is from Spain so I asked her about the tortilla/omlet thing.  And she said yes that a tortilla is made with eggs and normally potatoes and is mostly a dinner item.  Because eating eggs for breakfast would be too heavy!  Ha!  Guess she has never gone out to breakfast in the states!
Then we went home and had lunch and he spotted Sean's lego train on the floor in the play area.  So when lunch was finished he said, "Play train?"  I told him go ahead I was going to clean up lunch and I would be over.  Well when I get over he has the 3 big train cars in more then 3 pieces, yikes!  Sean is going to be mad when he finds out!  I tried putting them back together, but I don't think I got all the right pieces in the right places.  I told him I think we need to move on to a different toy!  His mom came back in the afternoon.
After school Amber had a friend over and then before dinner Jacob had a friend come over to spend the night.  So we had dinner and then the kids had a nice night.

Sat. morning I made chocolate chip pancakes and I asked Jacob's friend if he would like a plain pancake or chocolate chip one.  He is from Holland. He asked me what are chocolate chips!  See people here don't use them, shame!  He tried one but preferred the plain pancakes instead.  We had a nice day taking it easy.  Then in the evening we had the school Gala.  So I had an uneasy feeling about the babysitter for tonight. She doesn't always seem on top of things.  So she had been over Tues. and I reminded her about tonight she said ok.  But since I had a bad feeling I texted her around 3:30 or so and changed the time just a bit.  So she sends me a note back saying that she wants to go and visit a sick friend in the hospital, really I don't think so.  But she said her friend could come.  Ok I will take the friend if you don't want to come over, b/c I am always looking to have a few sitters on hand.  The girl didn't know who was in the hospital- hmm!  The girl was nice and the kids liked her.  But then she says that  Jason knows her dad.  I guess Jason interviewed him in the fall, but they didn't end up hiring him.  So he has been out of work, but I am assuming he has a severance package.  They are quite nice here with those!   But she said they may end up moving back to the states.
The Gala was fun.  We sat at a table we had booked with friends, 5 couples.  It was one girls b'day so one girl bought Norwegian tooth pick flags and put them on the bread and table for her!
